General Discussion about COD:MW2

PC Boycott

Postby iHarpy » Sun Oct 18, 2009 5:55 pm

First off, I don't want to bring any conflict here. I'm not a flamer/hater of any sort.

Anyone who has visited the IW Forums since last night knows that the majority of the PC gaming community is in an uproar. Since IW confirmed rumors that the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 would not support dedicated servers (24 hour servers that are the backbone of the PC gaming community- especially clans), over 30,000 people have signed petitions objecting IW's grave mistake. Most- if not all (including myself)- have canceled their pre orders which count up to over 2000 (since last night and from Amazon alone).

I really like these forums, as you guys have displayed great detective work with all the secrets to the game and multiplayer. I ask that you sign our petitions so that we have a chance of retaining what was going to be the greatest game of all time.

IW forum petition (has been deleted three times now): http://www.infinityward.com/forum/viewt ... 3&t=123824

And feel free to question IW's motives. I can't contemplate how it could be for financial gain, as now they risk losing over one million dollars soley from the PC market.

THANKS GUYS

I signed that thing. Its funny how Activision craps on the PC community. Its the PC community who made the COD series great. I did not have a pre-order but I do not plan to buy this game. I hate to play FPS on consoles, its not for me. And to waste 59.99 dollars for a botched version just plain sucks. (Someone remind me why did they also raise the price 10.00 dollars for the PC version? :meh: )

And to any console player who says "Muahahah console owns, PC sucks" please realize that you have been limited since day 1 :loser: The reason why PC community is pissed is because IW leveled the playing field and no1 gets special treatment. For PC fans having a dedicated server is like breathing air... Its normal, we don't think about it, its expected to be there.... AND THEY TAKE IT AWAY !!!!

We should bring the fake ForuZeroTwo back and have some fun with it. :fu:

In a recent podcast, an Infinity Ward developer brought out the news that the PC multiplayer aspect of Modern Warfare 2 would rely heavily on it's matchmaking system. What's wrong with that, you may ask? The scrapping of dedicated servers, an option that players could use to set their rules, customization, etc.. Whilst this brings about somewhat more competitive gaming for clans and various teams of similar rank, it can make other players feel like they have less control. The community response to this rather late announcement is a petition signing in an attempt to fix this dispute. Other fan reactions have led to the cancellation of pre-orders for the game.

This is becoming big, but sadly due to the hype of the game it won't affect it at all.

CENSORSHIP !!!

After the shocking announcement from fourzerotwo that there will be no dedicated servers for Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 (also on PS3, Xbox 360) PC version, among other things, a barrage of petitions popped up on the IW forums. Unfortunately, it seems that the petitions are falling on deaf ears as IW has closed down two of the largest petitions.

These two petitions reportedly averaged around 250-300 pages in length, carrying several thousand signature each. Shut down in the dead of the night, gamers woke up to find that the said pages for the petitions now state "The topic you requested does not exist."

TriggerPappy, a community member, then contacted a moderator and was told, nay, promised, that no other petitions will be closed. Unfortunately though, the damage has already been done. If you still want to join the petition, though, there's still one left standing, although it's not located in the IW forums. As of this writing, there are 36,453 signatures on it.

To Infinity Ward, the petition pages may have been shut down and no longer exist on your forums, but there is no denying the fact that the clamor is very much alive.

Thats why I HATE IW FORUMS. Everything is kool as long as you agree with everything that IW spits out. This is NOT HOW YOU MAKE A GREAT GAME. Great games come from user input !! 1st no public beta, 2nd price hike, 3rd a slap in the face for PC users. IS THAT HOW YOU TREAT YOUR COMMUNITY????

Yeah I had signed every petition/argument launched last night. Within a couple hours we were 100+ pages. Woke up to found it deleted. Today, the 'oficial petition' is only reaching 80 pages since it was posted after the second petition was deleted. Infinity Ward is a massive corporation, just like Activision. Many of the posts on the petition are becoming console users' complaints of PC users voicing their distress. The gaming community begins to turn around on itself and ignites a flame war with gamers instead of re directing it at IW. If IW doesn't get whipped into shape by its fanbase, this may only be the beggining of the standardization of games, and it may soon reach Console users in a way that they NEVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE. I play CoD to interact with the 100+ members of my clan (PotW) and if we aren't tolerated, we're not moving on.

Ouch I feel ya man. I could care less as I don't have much time to play in clans. But I feel for people who do. Robert Bowling said that piracy was not the main factor why they decided to do this. LOL? Then what else? Someone please explain !??
