On a serious note, there is no overall, best weapon in MW2 IMO.

Everything is so dependent on what the scenario is, you can't claim any gun is the best.
I have the most issues with people who are nasty snipers and those who use the ACR. But I wouldn't say that sniper rifles or the ACR are hands down, best weapon. If you go by most efficiency, I'd say the knife is the best weapon. If you hit someone with it, they're dead.

I think they are all good. Some better than others for different things.

For Example: The Scar-H is a good all round gun. Good range, good accuracy, very powerful.
But in terms of Accuracy and Range, the ACR completely outshines the Scar. Or the M16. Good for Medium - Long range, high power, but when it comes to close range, the scar is 10x better and if you do get to close range when you have an M16 you n00bs are just gonna pull out your Model 1887 Akimbo with FMJ. So its pretty good all round =]

The knife does do infinite damage, but only if can get close enough to your target.

It's all personal preference really. I prefer the FAL as it takes around two bullets to kills someone with any red perk other than stopping power. And I just love semi-autos in general.

Well, I played with M4A1, SCAR-H, TAR-21, ACR, M16A4, FAMAS and AK47. M4 was good, then I swithced em like girls, M4>SCAR>TAR then I sticked to the Famas, [wait, dont ask me, yes I was level 60 when I stopped using M4 and famas] I got to the ACR and tought it is awesome, now I play with M16A4 with RDS and Stopping Power and I pure win.

It has already been mentioned that it is nearly impossible to say which primary gun is the best in the game. There are too many factors that sometimes make one gun more preferable than another. My personal favorite happens to be the ACR, but its low damage requires the use of stopping power. That being said, it absolutely beasts in long and medium range fights and can hold its own in short range fights as well because of its high rate of fire. The only map I don't use my ACR on all the time is Wasteland, which I almost always snipe on. Another gun that I have recently been using is a TAR-21 Silenced with Stopping Power. This gun is really powerful and pretty accurate as well. I used to not like the TAR because of its recoil, but the silencer really helps to correct it. Stopping power gives it a two shot capability, which is really useful for taking down runners. On maps where a silencer really makes no difference, like Scrapyard, I go with my ACR or the FAMAS.

I just started using the HBAR with grip and I realize now that that's what I've been missing the whole time.

Perks I use are unlimited turbo, faster running, and melee with blast shield. For me this is the funnest way to play (not necessarily the most effective way to get a high kill death ratio). The HBAR has great aiming at extended distances and can drop an opponent fairly quickly. I like to work my way behind enemy lines with this gun, then once there run around knife the opponents. If you play it well you can get multiple knife kills before anyone has any idea that you are around them. Honestly, my kill/death ratio is generally around 20/15 (it is hard to get kill streaks playing this way), but I have a blast playing this way. Word of wisdom though, on levels like wasteland using this setup can be a real bitch.

Really The one two weapons I used in Mw2 would be Specifically The Scar-H and M16 .
The Scar-H you can spay the gun towards your adversary so he can die And I find it a really good gun.
I only used red dot on it .
And for the M16. well I used that since the day i got it . It's only a 3 burst shot but good god that's all you need! I got many many more head shots quicker with that gun then any gun almost combined.
only if you aim in the correct spot he should die. As for this gun as well I'm using red dot sight on it .
For me those 2 guns are just perfect. As for Secondary on Scar-H I would recommended Rpg , If not at that level just use another gun . Don't matter. Perks. The only downside about Scar-H is the ammo. Very limited on it . So you better use scavenger. M16, Secondary I'm using Tmp, If not at that level again , Use PP2000 so you can spray the on the corner . Then for perks , Don't really recommended anything , Use what you want .
